These unique systems allow analogue audio, digital audio, composite video and component video signals to be transmitted over long distances using standard CAT-5 cables. The systems consist of various transmitter, receiver and optional repeaters that can extend cable lengths. Signal loss and noise are the two major issues with transmitting audio and video over large distances. These CAT-5 transmission systems overcome this by using the properties of CAT-5 cable and low noise, high speed signal amplifiers. Typically these systems can operate over 300m (1000ft) before a repeater is required. There are several systems available to cover the different types of signal that may be encountered including composite video, component video, VGA and stereo audio.
